Why serious counterparties trade under a pseudonym

Telecom traders have a specific privacy problem: the inventory itself is contact data. A public deal history tells competitors which markets you are buying into, and a leaked email address invites the exact kind of unsolicited approach this industry is famous for. Pseudonymous trading fixes that without making anybody anonymous to the platform itself.

What other users can see

Your counterparty sees a pseudonym, a country, a trading record and whatever you choose to write in your profile. They do not see your email address, and they cannot recover it from the order. Reputation still works, because it is attached to the pseudonym and cannot be reset by editing a display name.

Why names are restricted

Public names are checked before they are accepted. Anything that impersonates the platform or its staff, or that smuggles a contact handle into the name field, is rejected — including the leetspeak variants, which are normalised before the check runs.

  • No staff, support, escrow, admin or platform-brand names
  • No messenger handles, domains or phone numbers inside the name
  • One public identity per account, so a record cannot be shed

Contact review in the order chat

Every message is scanned before it is delivered. Email addresses, phone numbers, messenger handles, external links and off-platform payment details are removed and the message is marked as redacted; a message that exists only to move the trade elsewhere is blocked and flagged for moderators. It is deliberately blunt, and it occasionally redacts something innocent — that cost is smaller than the alternative.

What you lose by going off-platform

The moment a payment happens outside the platform there is no escrow, no inspection window, no dispute decision and no record a moderator can read. The pressure to move a deal to a messenger almost always comes from the side that benefits from having no record. That is the single strongest signal in the whole marketplace, and it is worth treating as disqualifying.

Takeaways

  • Counterparties see a pseudonym and a record, never your email
  • Names cannot impersonate staff or hide contact details
  • Chat is scanned; contact details and payment handles are stripped
  • Off-platform payment means zero protection — treat the request as a red flag
